Government is complex and confusing at the best of times, and finding all applicable information with regard to documents, jurisdictions and procedures can be difficult. This website was created to collate a wide range of publicly available information sources about the structure and operations of the Gabriola Fire Protection Improvement District (GFPID) in one place.

  • Whenever possible we link to documents published on the Gabriola Volunteer Fire Department website, or official government websites and resources.
  • If the material we reference is not published there, we look for other websites that host relevant documentation. (NOTE: recently much more information has become available on the Trustees site—note that we have not yet retroactively updated all our links to information to reflect that—so its material is well worth investigating.)
  • GFPID Chronicles does not offer opinions, analysis or commentary, and does not endorse candidates in election campaigns.
  • Chronicles does sometimes link to/quote third-party content that expresses opinions (with citations), when that content provides useful information, because opinions about the operations of the GFPID and/or related matters may be relevant for people wanting to fully inform themselves about various issues and the positions people take on them. A link or quote does not imply endorsement of content.

  • Information relating to local government, improvement districts, the Gabriola Fire Protection Improvement District, and other relevant materials.
  • Transcripts of public meetings, in full or part.
  • Fact-checking of some statements made by trustees, using publicly available resources such as government websites.

A FEW OTHER IMPORTANT POINTS

  • This site is not affiliated with the Gabriola Volunteer Fire Department, nor with the Gabriola Fire Protection Improvement Trustees.
  • This site is independently run by Gabriola community members and has no affiliation with any business on Gabriola or elsewhere.
  • Although we provide transcriptions, we do not always fully transcribe every meeting. We transcribe sections that include information we believe to be of public interest, and sections where there is debate or disagreement as to how to address a matter.
  • Comments are closed because the purpose of the site is to collate information, not provide a venue for community discussions.
  • We do not link to materials on social media sites. This is because these sites are not fully accessible to all, even their public pages, and therefore any content referenced cannot be verified by all readers. We also believe that people should not be forced to register as users of proprietorial profit-making sites in order to find out what is happening in their community and the larger world.
We are not professional researchers, so we may miss something. Please provide citations for any corrections of fact so that we can confirm their accuracy before changing our content.
